Happy Mother’s Day! I am blessed to be the mother of two young men, Andrew and Barry, Jr., who have not only brought me an overabundance of joy, but also a fair amount of worry and frustration over the years. Thankfully, there has been way more joy than worry. I love my boys immensely!

Motherhood can be a wonderful experience; however, it can also be nerve-racking and exhausting at times. Despite the lack of sleep during their baby years and teenage years (especially when they start driving), the worry over their well-being, and the heartache you feel when they are hurting (physically or emotionally), it is all worth it. Motherhood is one of my toughest roles, but it is also my most fulfilling one, and I would not trade it for anything. Motherhood looks differently for everyone. It is not a one type fits all kind of role. Whether you happen to be the mother of humans, fur babies, a creative endeavor, or a business, dear reader, this is your day to celebrate your path to motherhood.

Yesterday, we hosted a crawfish boil with a few of our friends and family. It was a beautiful, sunshiny day. Barry, Sr., along with my boys and our neighbor John, boiled the crawfish. The mudbugs were spicy good! We had a great deal to celebrate – Helen moving back to Louisiana, Claire passing her Praxis exam, mothers, friendship, life in general. Unfortunately, my momma was unable to attend; however, we did send my Daddy home with flowers, crawfish, and dessert for her. Much gratitude to Helen who took the pictures of our day together.

As you know, dear reader, May is Zombie Awareness Month, and I am completely engrossed in all things related to zombies. Currently, I am obsessed with All of Us Are Dead, the South Korean coming-of-age tv series streaming on Netflix. WOWZER! I think it is AMAZING. Basically, there is a zombie virus outbreak at a high school with a group of teenagers trapped in the school, fighting for survival. If anyone or anything is bitten by an infected person or animal, the virus works insanely fast, turning them into raging, rabid zombies. It is definitely worth a watch for zombie lovers.

Well, it is time for this zombie lover to get on with her day. It will be a low-key kind of day. Since my mom and I cannot get together today, we will plan a mother-daughter outing at a later date. As for my plans for today, I will be hanging out at home with my guys and fur babies, relaxing, and perhaps, watching some more All of Us Are Dead with the hubster. Blessings to all the women out there who assume the role of mom. Big hugs to those of you who can no longer spend the day with your mother. Wishing all of you a beautiful week ahead. Happiness!

Happy Mother’s Day to my momma, Mrs. Billie, and ALL the wonderful women in the universe that take on the role of mothering. Even though it can be a tough job at times, mothering is worth every moment. I am grateful for the gift of being a mother to my two sons and my three furbabies, and being a Godmother to my niece Emma and Mr. Mike.

Yesterday morning, my hubby and I drove to the south shore to visit my parents. We all went to eat lunch together to celebrate my momma. Since she was the guest of honor, we asked her to choose the restaurant. She selected Perrin’s Restaurant located on Hickory Avenue in Harahan. I was excited because my hubby and I had never eaten there, so this counts as trying a new restaurant (#18 on my 21 for 2021 list).

Since we arrived at the restaurant early, we were seated right away. My momma ordered the Bub Burger with Sautéed Veggies. I ordered a Grilled Shrimp Wrap with Sweet Potato Fries. My Daddy also requested a wrap, but he chose the Southwest Chicken Wrap with French Fries. Barry decided on the Mini Seafood Platter with French Fries. We were all pleased with our choices. I ate half of my meal, so I could eat the other half for dinner. Yum! I give Perrin’s two thumbs up, especially since there are healthy options that taste delicious.

After lunch, we drove over to our favorite coffee shop PJ’s in River Ridge and hung out for a little bit before heading back to my parents’ house. We had a terrific day, and I am so grateful for the time I spent with my parents, especially my mother. I am very blessed to still have her in my life. She has always been a hard worker and did her best to care for my sister and me. My momma took on a second job selling Avon, so my sister and I could attend Catholic School from Kindergarten through 8th grade. She stayed up late many nights making my wedding dress. And, she always lends a helping hand whenever I need it. I have so many fantabulous memories of my momma, and I hope I have many more years to make new memories with her.

As for me, dear reader, I plan to spend today with my two boys. My hubby will grill us all steaks for lunch. Later this evening, Andrew and I will go to the movie theatre to see Godzilla Vs. Kong. And, we cannot forget Mrs. Billie, my awesome mother-in-law. At some point during the day, we will visit with her. How will you be spending your Mother’s Day? A shout out to all the mothers out there who provide care, love, and protection for others and remembering all those who are watching over us from heaven. Happiness!

Barry, Jr., Kat, Andrew, and Barry, Sr.

Happy Mother’s Day to me and all the women who assume the role of mother in some fashion. Today was a day splendidly spent with my youngest son. Movie Tickets Andrew and I started out at the movies where we watched A Quiet Place. Both of us enjoyed it even though we were tense the entire time. I treated myself to popcorn and an Icee. YUM! I haven’t had movie popcorn in years.

Next up, we had a late lunch at Courtyard Café in downtown Hammond. This was our first visit, and we were not disappointed. We both ordered crepes. Andrew chose the Perfect Pair (Nutella and bacon). I chose the Strawberry Fields (strawberries, chocolate, and whipped cream). YUM 2! In addition to the delightful crepes, we ordered Dragon’s Breath. It was a bowl of Dragon's Breathpastry puffs with liquid nitrogen. The pastry puffs are about the size of a cheese ball but look and taste like Trix cereal; however, when you bite into them, smoke comes out of your nose and mouth…like it does from a dragon. Terrific experience! YUM 3!

To round out our day together, we stopped at our favorite place…Books-A-Million. We browsed a bit and did very little damage. We left the store with a book for Andrew and a gift card for one of my students who earned over 1,000 points reading Accelerated Reader this year. Once home, I took a siesta. Later this evening, I plan to watch the first part of Little Women on PBS.

The upcoming week for me will be busy. Andrew’s Ring Mass is tomorrow evening. My 8th graders have Honors Day on Wednesday morning and Graduation on Wednesday evening. My team and I will celebrate after the graduation ceremony. I’m taking off Thursday to attend Andrew’s Undergraduate Honors program at STA. On Sunday, I plan to take my momma out, and we will celebrate her for Mother’s Day. While this week will be a whirlwind of activity, I am thankful to be a part of it all.

District Donuts #1

District Donuts

Happy Mother’s Day to all the women who take on the role of mom. I have been blessed and privileged with being the mother of my two sons and the Godmother of my niece Emma. Yesterday, Andrew and I went to the movies to see The Jungle Book (excellent film). He seemed disappointed that he did not have a tangible gift for me. I told him the gift was his time with me. I told both of my children that I did not want any gifts. I just wanted to be able to spend some time with them. I LOVE them tremendously!

District Donuts #2

Sliders

Today, my husband and I took a road trip to Magazine Street in New Orleans. We visited District Donuts. The donuts are HUGE! I ordered a cheeseburger slider and a Rose and Champagne Donut (creme filled with sugared covered rose petals on top). My hubby ordered a pork slider and a donut called the Elvis (glazed donut with maple frosting, bananas, and bacon). Afterwards, we visited my mother and his mother bringing them both a donut and roses. We plan on taking our mothers out for lunch somewhere special later this month.

District Donut #3

Elvis

This evening I will have dinner with my boys. My husband is grilling chicken and stuffed mushrooms. What a perfect way to end my Mother’s Day!

Remembering ALL mothers still with us and those watching over us from heaven. Your love is with us always. Wishing all of you, dear readers, a pleasant week ahead. Happiness!
